DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) – With more and more players from teams around the NFL supporting various causes by not standing during the National Anthem before games, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is proud none of his players have chosen to use that time to make a personal statement.
On Monday night, San Francisco’s Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid once again kneeled during the National Anthem, while a few other players protested by raising their fists. Rams defensive lineman Robert Quinn and receiver Kenny Britt and Niners linebacker Eli Harold and safety Antoine Bethea all held up their fists in protest.
“The forum of the NFL and the forum on television is a very significant thing” said Jones. “I’m for it being used, in every way we can, to support the great contributors in our society – that is people that have supported America, and the flag.”
“For anybody to use parts of that visibility to do otherwise is really disappointing” said Jones.
On Sunday, the 15th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, the Cowboys and AT&T Stadium hosted and honored first responders from all across North Texas in memory of those who serve, and of those that have fallen in the line of duty.
“We strongly support the flag in every way — and the people that for generations have given it all up so that we can get out here” said Jones. “We respect that so much.”
“I’ve got to give a big pat on the back to our entire team, our coaching staff, our entire organization” said Jones.
